The things families ask us

Your child is taught by an AI teacher. We say that plainly because you deserve to know it, and because a child should never be misled about who they are talking to.

But VEDI is not a machine with no people in it. A human mentor meets your child one to one every week. A human subject teacher steps in when your child is stuck. Every group session — the morning circle, the projects, the building lab — is led by a person. And a human Director reviews and approves everything. The AI teacher teaches. People do the rest.

Then they do not move on. VEDI does not give a child a low pass and push them into the next topic on top of a gap. Work is either Mastery Demonstrated or Not Yet Proficient, and “not yet” simply means the lesson stays open.

Most of the time it does not get that far, because the AI teacher checks what your child knows before it teaches. If the thing underneath is missing, it teaches that first and then returns to the lesson. Gaps get closed as they appear, rather than accumulating quietly for years.

And if your child keeps struggling with the same thing, a human subject teacher is called in to work through it with them directly. That teacher is not on a timetable — they arrive because your child needs them, and step back once the difficulty is gone.

Every day. The school day opens with a circle, and children work in a squad of four to six on a real project — investigating, designing, building, arguing it out and presenting it. Squads stay together for the length of a project, usually six to eight weeks, which is long enough to actually trust each other. Then they are reshuffled, so across a year your child works with many different peers.

These sessions are led by a person, not by software, and children join from all over the world.

The academic subjects follow an international curriculum. Alongside them, your child has a native language lesson five times a week— their mother tongue, taught properly, on that language’s own national curriculum. Not a token weekly class. More lessons than they get in mathematics.

This is possible because the AI teacher teaches the language lessons itself. An ordinary school offering mother-tongue teaching in forty languages would need forty teachers, and could never justify it for one child. Tell us your language when you enrol and we will confirm what we can offer.

Between 17 and 19½ hours a week, depending on your child’s age — roughly three and a half to four hours a day, finishing early in the afternoon.

That is less time than a classroom day, and it teaches more, because nobody spends the morning waiting for twenty-nine other children. Teenagers start an hour later than the younger ones, deliberately, because adolescent sleep is real and fighting it is pointless.

Only for the group sessions. Those are fixed, because a squad cannot meet unless everyone arrives together.

The one-to-one lessons are your child’s own. The timetable we publish is a recommended rhythm, not a bell schedule — if your child thinks best at nine in the morning or four in the afternoon, that is when they should learn.

It depends entirely on where your child is in school, and we would rather be honest than reassuring.

Grades 1 to 3: a good deal. A child who is still learning to read and write needs a grown-up nearby to keep them settled and on task. You are their learning coach, and the mentor supports you in it.

Grades 4 to 6: much less. Your child logs in and works through their own day; the mentor watches that the habit is forming.

Grade 7 and up: very little. By then the job is setting goals and looking ahead, and that is between your child and their mentor.

It is the fairest question anyone asks us, and the honest answer is that attention is something we work on rather than assume.

Every lesson opens with a short thinking game — about thirty seconds — because a warmed-up mind starts better than a cold one. During the lesson, the AI teacher pauses two or three times and asks one quick question about what it just taught. It takes a single tap. A right answer earns a star; a wrong one costs nothing at all, and nothing is ever taken away.

Those stars build toward something your child chooses: a small choice each week, and a larger goal they pick for themselves at the start of term and can watch getting closer.

None of this is a treatment, and we would not claim it is. It is a school that noticed children have to want to pay attention, and built the day around that rather than around hoping.

At VEDI 1, the first year of school, through to VEDI 13, the final year. Thirteen levels in all, each one matching the year your child would be in at home.

You tell us the grade your child is in and we place them there. We go by the grade, not by a birthday — children arrive at each year ready at their own pace, and that is fine with us.

Your child’s work is aligned to established international standards — Common Core, NGSS, the C3 framework, CSTA and ISTE, SHAPE, NCAS. These are the benchmarks international schools around the world are built on, which is what makes the work travel. We keep a full record of every standard your child has demonstrated, and we provide it in whatever form a receiving school needs.

No. VEDI does not monitor children through their cameras — not during lessons, and not during assessments. Some online schools use exam proctoring software that watches a child’s face and eyes. We do not, and we will not.

We also never use a camera or microphone to guess how a child is feeling. And we do not label children — our notes record what a child did, never a verdict on what they are. These are the strictest rules in the world on the use of AI with children, and we hold ourselves to them everywhere we teach, not only where the law requires it.

Yes — and we’ve set it out in full in our Privacy Policy. In short: we collect only what teaching your child needs, we never sell it and never share it for advertising, and we keep it in secure, access-controlled systems, with any uploads in private storage.

We never watch your child through a camera or microphone, never try to guess how they are feeling, and never label them. We keep your child’s school records while they are enrolled and for a limited time afterwards; you can ask to see, correct or delete their data at any time.

The AI teacher gives your child as much time as they need. With no other children waiting, a lesson can slow right down, go back over something from last week, or approach it from a completely different direction — and it costs nobody anything. No child is held up, and no child is hurried. For a child who has spent years being the slowest one in the room, that alone can change everything.

Before your child starts, we sit down with you and build a plan together: what helps them, what does not, what a good day looks like and what to do on a bad one. We adjust it as we come to know them. You know your child better than any assessment does, and we begin from that.

Attention gets active help too, not just more time. Every lesson opens with a short focus game, and the quick checks during it are built so that a wrong answer never costs anything — because a child who is afraid of losing something stops trying.

We should be honest about the limits. VEDI is not a specialist school, and some children need in-person therapeutic or medical support that we cannot provide. Tell us about your child before you enrol and we will tell you plainly whether we are the right place for them.
